about
“Yellow Fever Gaze” is KUOKO’s latest release from her upcoming self-titled Album (22.10.2021) and takes a lighter, more upbeat turn while KUOKO’S cheeky voice sings about a rather serious: The fetishization of Asian women and its dehumanizing, burdening effect that KUOKO herself as a Vietnamese-German woman feels with that. Creating this track to bring awareness to the engendered racism Asian (looking) women experience – she continues to explain why she chose a lighthearted synth based pop sound: “Since it’s a heavy topic, it was helpful for me to put the message into a happy, upbeat pop dress. It feels more empowering that way” – a feel that she underlines with the self-conceptualized corresponding music video.
